Caminito La Boca Buenos Aires

The Rolling Stones official poster for the 2nd show in Buenos Aires Feb 10 is inspired by the colours and the feel of Caminito La Boca. It is a colourful area. I wanted to go there, and made plans for visiting some well known places on my way. It was a great walk, and like always walking a city is much metter than hopping on a tourist trip with a bus. This is the story of my way from Cordoba via San Telmo to Caminito La Boca.

First to another part of the city, visiting “Buller Pub & Brewery Recoleta”, right next to the Cementerio de la Recoleta. Microbrew samplers tasted great. So did the ice cream. Then back to Cordoba street for energy and water. Today Friday February 12 is may be one of the hottest summer days in Buenos Aires, reading 36 degrees C in the afternoon.

I start walking from Av. Cordoba to the famous bridge “Punete de la Mujer”. Then to San Telmo, 2-3 km walking along Belgrano and Bolivar, near Carlo Calvo. Then I realize La Boca is a bit far to walk, still may be 3 km, and it is +36 C and a lot more in the sun, so I grab a taxi. It takes 10 minutes and cost me 60 peso i.e. 4 us dollars. I arrive right into the center area of Caminito La Boca. The driver warn me. He do not speak English but his message is clear. I arrive at 7pm, and he tells me: “keep an eye out”, and “don’t stay here after dark”. A clear message.

It seems like the area close at 7pm. I walk around and enjoy the great colours and buildings, watch a couple dancing, and before it is getting dark shortly after 8pm, I get a taxi back home to Cordoba. The taxi driver take another way, under the highway, and I understand this is not an area you walk on your own.

Later in the evening, a show with Tim Ries and friends at “Thelonious Club”, Jeronimo Salguero 1884, staring at 1am in the morning of show day Feb 13. But that is another story…
